Born in Belfast, and now living in Hillsborough, County Down in Northern Ireland.

Jean became an FEI International Eventing Judge in 1984, and was upgraded to “Official International” status in 1994.

Miss Jean Scott Mitchell was awarded an “MBE” by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, in the 2003 New Years Honours list, for services to Equestrian Sport.

She retired from judging in 2009

Through the IEOC, Jean has been involved in assisting the FEI Eventing Committee with up dating the FEI Rules for Eventing.

Jean has also been the Event Director at Tattersalls International Horse Trials for 5 years, hosting an HSBC FEI Eventing CIC*** World Cup Qualifier in 2008, 2009 and again in 2010, as well as CCI** / CCI** Under 25 / CCI* / CCIJ*  and CCNP** classes.  Tattersalls has been voted by the riders as the “Best Event in Ireland” for the 3rd year running and as the 6th best FEI event in the World, in the 2008 edition of L’Année Hippique - after only 3 years of International competition.

· Event Director for the FEI International Horse Trials at Necarne Castle

· Master Judge for training new dressage judges in Ireland

· Member of the Ground Jury for the Team event at the 2000 Sydney Olympics

· President of the Ground Jury at the 2002 World Equestrian Games at Jerez in Spain

· Member of the FEI Pony Committee

· Event Director for FEI European Eventing Championships at Senior, Young Rider and Junior levels

· Event Director at Punchestown International Horse Trials

· Event Director at the 2003 European Pony Championships in Ireland

· Organising committee member of the International Eventing Forum, 2010, at Hartpury College.
